Being from Australia, I just came across a few articles talking about eBay in Australia.  There was an Online Business Index released in March 2012 that I suspect triggered a small flurry of articles.  For example:

• E-tailing beast the high street: eBay (Mobile the next wave) at http://www.channelregister.co.uk
• Online businesses still under pressure from suppliers, eBay Index reveals at smartcompany.com.au

Mobile is a big (and successful from what I have seen) push for eBay.  The cost of postage in Australia (and the size of the country) certainly adds to challenges in Australia for online shopping.
